Nothing Ventured, Nothing Gained

With the new hardware this year, we have the luxury of plugging standard USB devices into the box that sends the commands to our robot on the field. This is a great improvement over years past, where we were limited to only interfacing with the Operator Interface/DriverStation with a standard Joystick adapter. "They" told us that a standard HID (Human Interface Device) compliant USB device would "probably" work with this years DriverStation.

So, with that in mind, I thought it would be easy to plug in an external USB numpad/keypad into the DriverStation and have 19 buttons to use; as opposed to wiring all our buttons by hand.

It turns out that HID compliant devices will only work with the new DriverStation if they are of the "Game Controller" flavor... Unfortunately this does not include our keypad.

So it looks like we're going to need to wire up some extra buttons again this year.
