Random Website

So, in the process of trying to come up with something to blog about tonight, I consulted my Google Alert email. Every day Google Alert notifies me of anything new on the web related to FIRST Robotics. Lately I browse through the entries but rarely take time to read any of the findings. It's mostly news regarding a "local team" winning a regional competition. They then go on to explain FIRST, which is great, but not the kind of info I'm looking for.

My Google Alert for today contained a link to a team's website and into their blog archive. Being a fan of blogs, I decided to bite. It was actually a teams meeting notes from a couple weeks ago. Not much of interest to me there, but I did decide to go in the front door and explore their website.

Team 864 - Lynbrook Robotics has a really nice web presence. They are located in San Jose California and are "The Funky Monkeys". What's not to love about that name?

Their website is clean and explains FIRST along with showing who they are. Nice pictures, nice colors, nice design, well done!

Good job on the website Team 864 - Good luck to you guys in 2009; hope to see you in Atlanta!

Website Entered Into Competition

This week was a busy week as we are quickly approaching the end of build season and there are also certain submissions that needed to be made this week. Our team website was due this week, and we've completed the submission to contest the best website award.

The websites are judged based on current information and explanations of FIRST and this years game. The judges also take into consideration how the site works, if there are broken links or incorrect information.

If you haven't checked out our team's website in a while, I suggest you take a look:

Team Websites

Now that every team has begun to design and build this years robot, there are also groups of students that are working tirelessly to create a stunning and dynamic web presence for their team. Teams will use their website as a marketing tool to show businesses who they are and what they do, in hopes that they will provide sponsorship for their team.

From time-to-time I plan to link to teams websites and write a little about what I see. If you'd like to send me a link to your team's site, just post a comment.

Today I randomly picked FIRST Robotics Competition Team 1745 - http://www.pearcerobotics.com/ from Richardson Texas. They've created a very clean site using Joomla, a popular open source Content Management System. They have a lot of great information about their team, it's easy to find and the content is up-to-date. I like how they have images, videos, a special page for sponsors and a page that recognizes everyone on the team. They also have a login for users, so I hope they have team specific content for registered users. Great site Team 1745!
